Are the Suffolk Online business programs different from the on-campus programs?
The Suffolk Online business programs bring the innovation and world-class clusters that fuel our dynamic city into the virtual classroom–helping you gain a unique perspective and preparing you for success wherever you live. For example, throughout the online program, you will interact directly with live clients and professionals from a variety of Boston-area businesses. Our online programs incorporate workshop sessions with accomplished business executives that allow you to tackle real-world challenges and learn experientially. Our deep connections to the Boston business community are a crucial part of each program.
Does “live” workshop mean I’ll have to be online at a specific time?
No. There’s more flexibility because your program will be online and course materials are available 24/7. The curricula and faculty are the same as the on-campus programs’.
What are the faculty members like for the online business programs?
Yes, occasionally. There will be scheduled workshops or synchronous live sessions where we will ask you to log in at a specific time to participate. You will get plenty of notice as to when these events will happen so you can plan accordingly. If you are unable to attend, we make it easy to connect with a faculty member and see if there are other options. A recording may be available.
What is it like to take a course online?
Our Suffolk Online faculty members are the same faculty members who teach on campus. They are active and deeply rooted in global business. Suffolk Online faculty members are more than teachers. They are researchers, published authors, entrepreneurs, and active industry professionals. Most of all, they are mentors. They form lasting relationships with students, offering academic support, career guidance, and access to professional networks. Click here to see our faculty profiles.

What exactly does “experiential learning” mean?
These online programs are highly immersive, engaging graduate degrees that offer experiential learning opportunities. Your program will help you develop advanced business competencies and critical business skills through direct interactions with live clients and professionals from Boston-area businesses. These firsthand experiences are collaborative problem-solving sessions focused on current business challenges. Such experiential learning opportunities enable practical skill development that goes beyond that of the commonly used case studies found in other business programs.
It means you can “learn by doing” through firsthand experiences. We use live workshop sessions in core and foundational courses alike. These highly interactive, collaborative learning sessions bring in professionals from Boston’s renowned biotech, finance, healthcare, and technology sectors to promote the development of distinct business competencies. When these professionals present actual business challenges, you’ll have the chance to collaborate with them to help develop solutions that can be tested and implemented in the real world.
Examples of challenges addressed in recent live workshops include:
- From a biotech manufacturer adjusting to competition and location: How can we keep biomedical manufacturing in Massachusetts?
- From a real estate developer looking to develop strategy: What is the best use of a new space to leverage Boston’s expertise?
- From a banking institution hoping to grow its customer base: How can we best grow our product base across our business units without leveraging traditional incentive programs?
- From a nonprofit looking to innovate: How can we leverage Boston’s (and other regions’) innovative technological capability to become a leader in innovation for our clients?
